Dermaplaning  FAQ's

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a very effective, non-invasive exfoliating facial making the face feel smooth and very clean.  A round-edged scalpel, specially manufactured for dermaplaning, is angled skilfully to glide over the skin to remove both dead skin build-up and fine facial hair.  This process ultimately exfoliates, brightens and smooths the skin.  It does sound a bit scary, but it is actually very soothing!

Who Can Have This Facial?

Dermaplaning is great for anyone who wants to improve the appearance of their skin.  A Dermaplane is a great exfoliating facial for both women and men.  Even pregnant, and nursing, women can have this non-invasive treatment as it’s so gentle.

This treatment can be performed on all skin types.

Why Would I Want Dermaplaning?

Dead skin on the face and neck can make your complexion look grey and dull.  This is because dead skin cells build up on the face.  Quite a several layers of dead skin in fact over the month, before each layer eventually sloths away.  These layers of dead skin don’t lay completely flat and that is why when you run your hand over your face, it can feel rough, dry and sometimes oily in places.  Your skin can look dull and in desperate need of deep exfoliation and hydration.

Dermaplaning removes the build-up of dead skin making the skin bright and fine lines less defined.  With the removal of hair, there is nowhere for acne-causing bacteria to lay on the skin, so skin has fewer outbreaks.  The removal of both dead skin and hair reveals brighter, smoother and very clean skin.  Your face will feel amazingly soft and smooth after a dermaplaning treatment.

Also, the fine hairs on your face are like dirt and oil magnets.  The sebum produced is your skin’s worst enemy.  Removing facial hair means there is nothing for sebum to cling to.  No sebum means the acne-causing bacteria can’t grow on the skin.  Acne and breakouts are reduced as long as a good home-care skin regime is followed.

Removing both the dead skin and hair instantly exfoliates the skin like no other facial.

Wrinkles are diminished, as the dead skin cells and dirt are removed.  Your skin will actually feel clean.  It will look brighter and smoother.  It’s such a nice feeling that clients are happy to not wear makeup straight after treatment as they like the clean feeling this facial gives.

Depending on the facial you select, this facial is very relaxing and a great stress-buster.  Check out the different facials available.

The Benefits of Dermaplaning

  • No downtime.

  • Provides deeper product penetration. Increasing absorption from 20% to 60%.

  • Makeup can be worn straight away and goes on like a dream. Flawless makeup.

  • Removes soft facial hair that traps dirt and oils. Reducing breakouts.

  • Promotes smoother skin.

  • Safe procedure for removing dead skin cells and “peach fuzz” facial hair.

  • Diminishes the look of fine lines.

With no dead skin or facial hair to inhibit the penetration of products, you have skin that will absorb products better and allow makeup to glide on smoothly making your makeup flawless and skin brighter. Ideal for both oily and dry skin.

Skin Conditions and Dermaplaning?

Acne

Dermaplaning can give you temporary relief from acne.  When the facial hair is removed there is nowhere for oil and dirt to cling to, so less chance of bacteria growing and the skin becoming infected and/or inflamed.

This facial can be carried out on acne-skin.  Any areas where the acne is active and pustular can be worked around.  It is important that acne skin has a good home-care regime and that any sebum is removed before it has time to build-up on the skin.  Sebum is the skin’s worst enemy!

The best dermaplaning treatment for acne is one with blue LED.  Blue LED kills off the acne-causing bacteria and will limit any further breakouts for a while following your treatment.  The Enzyme Peel & Mask treatment is the one favoured by acne sufferers as this exfoliates, kills existing bacteria and hydrates.

Acne Scarring

Dermaplaning alone will not improve scarring.  It will make it look better for a while once the skin has been hydrated.

You need to try a more invasive treatment like microneeding.  Microneedling will penetrate the scar and trigger the healing process which stimulates collagen and will, over time, improve the appearance.

If you have scarring and would like to try a dermaplaning treatment, maybe try the dermaplane and microneedling facial.  The depth microneedled is superficial (0.2-0.4mm), so will help at a superficial level.

Anti Ageing

Though this treatment won’t turn back the clock, it will give your skin a glow.

Sadly, as we all know, age brings wrinkles.  Dead skin builds up in your wrinkles and can make them look worse than they actually are.

The removal of dead skin build-up from your face effectively cleans out your wrinkles making them less defined and at the same time brightening the skin.

As you age you will feel that your face is becoming hairier.  This is especially true if you are suffering a hormone imbalance.  Menopause, for example, makes you hairy! Removing the hair that seems more prevalent on both the sides of our neck and face will stop you looking, Woolley!

The best anti-ageing dermaplaning treatments would be either the Enzyme Peel & Mask or the Dermaplane with Boost & Buff Peel facials. Booth these facials exfoliate and have the mask that’s saturated with hyaluronic acid which will thoroughly hydrate the skin.

Dehydrated Skin

Sometimes your skin just needs hydrating. When it feels rough to the touch and tight and no matter how much moisturiser you apply it just doesn’t feel any better.

You need to select a dermaplaning facial that includes the hyaluronic acid mask. This mask is saturated with hyaluronic acid and is the ultimate hydrator.  Once the dead skin is removed from your face, this serum can penetrate better.

Dull and Grey Complexion

Dermaplaning is the best exfoliating facial.  Dead skin can make the skin look dull and grey.  It just needs a thorough exfoliate and hydrate.

Try either the Enzyme Peel & Mask, Boost & Buff or the Dermaplane with microneedling.  All good for hydration.

Sun Damage

It’s very difficult these days to age and not have some sun damage.  Sun damage can make the skin thick, textured, and make our pores look bigger.

You will need to have a dermaplane that really pushes the products into the skin.  Try the dermaplane with microneedling.  This will exfoliate, hydrate, and microneedling with help with resurfacing and softening the skin.

Rosacea

Rosacea would really benefit from a dermaplaning facial that has hydration. Try the Dermaplane with a Renew & Repair Peel.

Pigmentation

This will not affect the pigmentation on your face.  The removal of hair will give the illusion that your skin is lighter and brighter and for some this is enough.

Pigmentation is difficult to improve.  Any treatment you have to improve your pigmentation needs to be protected from the sun.  You only need a little direct sunlight to reverse the effect of any treatment you’ve had to put you right back to square one.

Pigmentation can be improved by chemical peels and microneedling.  Try the dermaplaning facial with microneedling.

Polycystic Ovaries

One symptom of polycystic ovaries is that you’re more hairy than usual.  This symptom shows significantly more hair on both the sides of the neck and face.

Dermaplaning will give you a temporary release, but the hair will grow back as it was before.

Try the express, standard or enzyme peel and mask facial.

Menopause

Feeling Woolley? Menopause messes with our hormones and one of the visible symptoms are more hair on our face.

Dermaplaning will help temporarily until the hair grows back exactly as it was before.

Any of the dermaplaning facials will benefit you.  Give one a try!

What happens during dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is done with a sterile micro-blade held at a 45-degree angle and brushed along the surface of the skin to remove thin layers of excess skin cells and fine hairs. This is then followed by a skin-soothing oil, or with our deluxe treatment, a mild ZO skin stimulation peel for extra exfoliation. The treatment is painless and does not require any numbing prior to treatment.
